Design Your Own Cycling Jersey: A Club Kit Guide
Twenty riders roll out on a Sunday morning in twenty different jerseys, and nobody driving past could tell you which club they ride for. A good club jersey changes that. It makes your riders easy to spot on the road, gives your sponsors something to be proud of, and makes new members feel part of the group from their very first ride.
If you’re ready to design your own cycling jersey, this guide walks you through it: how the panels work, where to put your sponsors, which fit to choose, how to match your shorts, and how to order for the whole club without the spreadsheet headache.
| Quick answer: how do you design your own cycling jersey? Pick your jersey style and fit, then plan the design panel by panel: front, back, sleeves, sides and collar. Put your main sponsor on the chest and upper back, keep the club name clear on the back, and choose bright colours so riders are easy to see. Build it in our free Kit Designer or with our in-house design team, check sizes against the size guide, and order with a minimum of 5 items on your first order. |
Step 1: Choose your jersey style
Start with the basics, because they shape everything else. Our club cycling jerseys come in:
- Short or long sleeves. Short sleeves for spring and summer, long sleeves for autumn and winter club runs.
- Full zip or quarter zip. A full zip is easier to vent on long climbs. A quarter zip gives a cleaner front for sponsor logos.
- Standard or Elite. Two ranges, so you can match the jersey to how your club rides and what it wants to spend.
Every jersey has three rear pockets for food, a phone and a spare tube, with the option to add a zipped back pocket for keys.
| Jersey | Price from (excl. VAT) |
| Standard, short sleeve, quarter zip | £22.50 |
| Standard, long sleeve, quarter zip | £24.75 |
| Elite, short sleeve, quarter zip | £33.50 |
| Elite, long sleeve, quarter zip | £35.00 |
| Full zip versions | Standard from £24.75, Elite from £35.00 |
Your club badge, sponsor logos and design are included in the price. See the full range on our custom cycling jersey page.

Step 2: Plan your cycling jersey design panel by panel
A cycling jersey isn’t one big canvas. It’s a set of panels, and each one is seen differently on the road. Think about where people will actually be looking when your club rides past.
| Panel | Who sees it | Best used for |
| Front chest | Photos, café stops, riders coming towards you | Club badge, main sponsor |
| Upper back | Every rider sitting behind in the group | Club name or main sponsor |
| Lower back, above the pockets | Riders and drivers behind | Club name, website or second sponsor |
| Sleeves | Side-on, at junctions and in photos | Smaller sponsors, flag or club colours |
| Side panels | Side-on | Colour blocks, stripes or a simple pattern |
| Collar and cuffs | Close up | A contrast colour or detail that finishes the look |
Remember that riders spend most of their time leaning forward. On the bike, the back of the jersey is the panel most people see, so give it your boldest design and clearest text.
Design tips that work on the road
- Go bright. Strong colours like yellow, orange, pink or bright blue make your riders easier to spot, especially on dark winter mornings. An all-black jersey looks sharp but disappears in low light. It’s the one design choice we’d talk any club out of.
- Keep it simple. Two or three main colours look cleaner from a distance than a busy pattern. One strong idea beats five small ones.
- Make the club name readable. Big, bold letters on the back. If a driver can read it, so can the rider behind.
- Use fades and gradients if you like. Because our cycling jerseys are fully sublimated, the design is dyed into the fabric. Gradients, patterns and as many colours as you want cost the same as a plain design.
- Think about the whole group. Picture 20 riders in a line. A design that looks good on one person can look even better repeated down a chaingang.
Step 3: Place your sponsors
Sponsors are often what makes club kit affordable, so give them good spots. A simple rule: the bigger the sponsor’s contribution, the more visible their space.
- Main sponsor: front chest and upper back. These are the most photographed and most seen spots.
- Second sponsor: lower back above the pockets, or across both sleeves.
- Smaller sponsors: sleeves, side panels or the collar.
- Matching shorts: a logo on the leg of the shorts, which is visible from the side.
Keep logos on plain areas of colour so they stand out. A white logo on a busy pattern gets lost. And leave a little space between logos, so the jersey doesn’t look like a noticeboard.
Step 4: Choose your range and fit
Fit matters more on a bike than in almost any other sport. A jersey that flaps in the wind is slow and annoying. One that’s too tight puts people off wearing it.
| Standard | Elite | |
| Price from | £22.50 excl. VAT (short sleeve) | £33.50 excl. VAT (short sleeve) |
| Fabric and feel | Standard polyester fabric | Premium, thicker polyester fabric |
| Best for | Club runs, social rides, newer riders | Faster group rides, longer days, winter riders |
Both ranges have a snug yet comfortable fit that won’t flap in the wind. Most clubs choose one range for everyone, so the whole group looks the same. If your club has a racing squad and a big social membership, our design team can talk you through using both ranges in one design. Our cycling jerseys come in men’s and women’s sizes, so every rider gets a size that works for them.
Cycling kit is sized closer than everyday clothing. Ask every rider to check our size guide before they choose, rather than guessing from their T-shirt size.
Step 5: Match your shorts and layers
A jersey looks its best with matching shorts. Our sublimated cycling shorts (£42.50 excl. VAT) can carry your club colours and sponsor logo on the leg. Many clubs keep shorts mostly black with a colour detail, because black hides road grime and saddle wear.
For autumn and winter riding, add layers in the same design:
- Sublimated gilet (£32.50 excl. VAT): blocks the wind on descents and packs into a back pocket.
- Arm warmers (Standard £12.50, Premium £15.50, excl. VAT): turn a short sleeve jersey into a long sleeve one on chilly mornings.
- Long sleeve jerseys: for the coldest club runs from November to March.
Step 6: Build it in the Kit Designer
You have two ways to make your own cycling jersey, both at no extra cost:
- Our free Kit Designer. Pick a cycling jersey, change the colours, add your logos and see it come to life on screen.
- Our in-house design team. Send us your ideas, badge and sponsor logos, and we’ll create the design for you.
A few tips for using the Kit Designer:
- Design one master kit. You only need one of each item. Names and sizes come later on the order form.
- Keep it to 14 items or fewer in one design session, so nothing gets lost.
- Logos: PNG, JPG or PDF is fine for designing. For the final order you’ll need vector files (SVG, PDF, EPS, AI or PS). No vector logo? We can create or vectorise one for a small fee, and you keep the files.
- Send it once. When you’re happy, click “Send us your designs”. You can make changes after we’ve processed your first submission.
Step 7: Order for your club rides
The design is the fun part. Ordering for 30 riders is where clubs usually get stuck. Here’s how to keep it simple:
- Start with a core order. Your first order has a minimum of 5 items. After that, there’s no minimum, so you can top up as new members join.
- Collect sizes in one place. Share the size guide with members and set a clear deadline for sizes.
- Plan around the calendar. Allow about 5 to 6 weeks from design sign-off to delivery. Order winter kit now, or plan your spring order in good time for the sportive season.
